The SPRI records tell us that Arved and his friend Reidar Bjerknes were both lost overboard on 10 September 1948 in position 26° N 17° W when their ship 'Saluta' was en route to South Georgia from Tenerife. Witnesses say that they went to sleep on deck, while intoxicated and were not seen again.
